Student Ambassadors Organization- Vice President of Membership and Recruitment

After being in the Student Ambassador Organization for one year, an organization which's members serve as a resource for the students and the University Community, I was voted to be the Vice President of membership and recruitment.

Working for this organization I leaned a lot because I was not only able to work on my public speaking and communication skills, conducting campus tours and speaking to high ranking members of the university, but also developed my leadership skills making sure that the members of the organization were following the requirements, working on their profesional development and also facilitating the recruitment process for new members. This process consisted in launching a recruiting campaign in which students could apply to become part of the team, after their resumes were reviewed, they were called for cell-phone interviews and if they qualified, they advanced to a next round of in person interviews. After, we would add to our team those individuals who we saw had the passion and motivation to learn, and bring their best to the organization.

Holding this position, I was invited to the CASE ASAP D3 Conference in Baltimore, were we joined more than 100 student leaders to prepare our student organization for advancement success. The program is designed to provide the tools needed to elevate the organization, learning from current used practices from other student organizations around the district, replicating them therefore becoming a community of successful student leaders and organizations.

Something else I was able to do while being an ambassador was give tours to large groups of students who came from all around the world showing them the beauty of our campus. It was an opportunity like no other were in a short time they were able to show me a little bit about their culture and I was able to show them about our FIU traditions.

It was definitely an opportunity from which I leaned a lot. Specially on how to be a global leader guiding my peers and those who I oversaw to success.
