Interdisciplinary Service-Research program
Vietnam and Cambodia
Capstone Project
Capstone Project: Projects
Being an Honors Student allowed with the opportunity of participating in the Interdisciplinary service and research study abroad program to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. This year long program consisted in attending a class for a semester where we researched and studied features of Thai, Cambodian and Vietnamese culture and history, their relevance to American History and America’s involvement in the Indochinese conflicts, learned about the Vietnam war, and the influence these topics have on shaping current foreign policy decisions.
The second part of this project was the actual trip to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia to this time conduct Field work research on the previously mentioned topics. Together with this, and my favorite part of the trip was the opportunity to teach English for one month to students in the Provincial Teacher Training College (PTTC) in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The opportunity to experience such different cultures was eye opening and enriching. This was the perfect way to truly understand the things we read in books and learned in the class and an amazing way to give back to a community that taught us so many things. My capstone project was one that changed my life forever, made me be improve in my communication skills, broadening my horizons and mindsets, and most importantly cultivating in me diversity and adaptability skills that I will carry with me forever.
